GOODBYE SUMMER, HELLO FALL 🍂

To kick off the month of September, we are excited to recap all the creative content we made and shared throughout the month of August in this issue of our newsletter. As always, we would like to thank our clients and business partners for their endless support and flexibility.

 

 

STUDIO SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Meet Raquel, our graphic design sprout! This summer, Raquel worked closely with our senior illustrator and licensing team to execute design concepts for messaging stickers, Twitter emojis, and Samsung themes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Through real-life projects, I was able to develop my skills in Adobe programs, such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects. I learned about licensing for digital marketing and distributions and made some pretty cool connections with people working in those industries.”

NATIONAL THRIFT SHOP DAY 🛍

We love seeing our summer interns get creative and work on projects that address causes important to them.

#NationalThriftShopDay is not only about supporting local thrift shops but about bringing awareness to their charitable missions. For Raquel’s personal project, she designed a GIF to highlight one of the most popular thrift spots in the Boston area: Buffalo Exchange.

As for what Raquel learned throughout this process, she found that she was able to showcase her design and animation skills, as well as create connections with the Greater Boston community.

“The design team at BTM was very open to me applying and learning skills even outside of my official job title. This project was challenging, but it was very rewarding to be able to bring awareness to shopping locally and second-hand. The best part was the shoutout I received from Buffalo Exchange…that was pretty cool!”

KEEP CALM AND TWEET ON 🤳
Our design team has been busy designing Twitter branded likes and hashtags for our partners! It’s always amazing to witness how many Twitter users engage with our designs on the platform. See our Twitter Feed for some of the work that was created and released this month.

FIRE WILL REIGN. Our design and animation teams had the opportunity to create a branded like to promote the August 21st premiere of the new Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon. We would be lying if we said we were not excited to work on this project!

Summer may be over for both parents and kids, but with Nike, you are never done playing. We let our imaginations run wild with this branded like, which gives Twitter users in the UK 24 hours of playfulness and excitement.

A branded like for the classic chicken sandwich that needs no introduction! As the exclusive design studio of branded likes for the Middle East regions, we had the opportunity to serve up some (virtual) Chicken Mac in Saudi Arabia.

BRB…just going to casually flex our creative muscles on Twitter with these branded likes created exclusively for the unveiling of the new Galaxy Z Flip 4 phones.

NEWS FLASH ⚡️

BTM takes on KSA! In case you missed it on our socials last month, Twitter named us the exclusive design studio of branded likes for the North America, Europe, and Middle East regions. On July 27th, our first branded like went live for Twitter users in Saudi Arabia. This design was created for stc pay, a mobile wallet that can be used to pay bills and send money to friends and family. We loved having the opportunity to bring branded likes to overseas advertisers and cannot wait for more designs to go live in the near future.

 

NATIONAL ICE CREAM MONTH 🍦

July is National Ice Cream month and our design, animation, & AR teams collaborated to bring our audiences *sweet* visual experiences.

Inspired by early 2000s computer games, our lead illustrator, Danielle, designed an ice cream vending machine game for our audiences. While fully leaning into the nostalgia of the 2000s, she also wanted to bring a new and modern approach to this design. Although the storyboarding sketches below show an ice cream purchase gone wrong, we decided that everyone should be a winner during
National Ice Cream month!

Rudy, our motion graphics intern, brought Danielle’s 2000s vision to life through animation. By animating the “start game” and selection processes, users feel as though they are playing the game and receiving the ice cream themselves. A flashing sign with celebratory confetti appears when users are notified they have won the game.

 

Wanting to bring some sweetness to our Snapchat channel, our AR designer, Wayne, designed a simple randomizer lens inspired by Danielle’s design. When users end a video, an ice cream from the machine is randomly selected. National Ice Cream month may be over, but you can’t go wrong with a big scoop of your favorite flavor of this frosty dessert.

Our team is constantly finding new ways to be in touch with the latest trends. Memes inspired by the children’s book series “Mr. Men & Little Miss” have gone viral on Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. We decided to put our own artistic spin on these memes!

Pet Hydration Month

Some like it hot, but your dog does not! For Pet Hydration Month, we teamed up again with Boston Animal Care and Control Shelter to design stickers to remind pet owners to protect their pets from the summer heat. Cactus Boi: Pride Samsung Theme

Pride Month is every month! Cactus Boi is bringing the Pride party to the Galaxy Store! Our graphic design summer intern, Raquel, designed the theme’s elements using a variety of design programs. Lens List Snapchat Selection

Lens List wanted to join the Smurfs for a game of soccer! Our hyper-casual gamified lens, “Smurf Soccer,” was featured on Lens List’s June Snapchat Selection for its complexity and user-friendliness. Back To Boston

Boston-based team members have been getting together weekly throughout the month of July to work in-person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Our hybrid work weeks provide flexibility, as well as an opportunity for new hires to meet long-standing staff. Team members were able to work collaboratively on design projects, discuss strategy, and even participate in a few bonding activities, including a Workbar birthday party!

As part of a beta program, Twitter has offered the creation of branded likes to a select few advertisers, with the intention of allowing them to encourage their audiences to share and like branded hashtag campaigns because of their unique animations and designs. Branded likes are attached to any tweet that contains a brand-specific hashtag and are live for 24 hours on the platform. As a limited edition campaign to drive hashtag and tweet engagement, advertisers love branded likes and the awareness they bring their companies.

For the last year, Bare Tree Media has worked with Twitter ArtHouse to design custom branded likes for Twitter and their clients. We are excited that as of June 30th, branded likes will now be offered to a wider audience of advertisers on Twitter. Twitter has named us the exclusive design studio of branded likes for the North America, Europe, and Middle East regions.

On June 19th, 1865, the last enslaved African-American people were emancipated in the United States. Juneteenth provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our country’s history and the injustices Black communities have had to and continue to overcome.

BALLER LENSES

Bleed Green or The Dubs? Our AR designer, Wayne, created Celtics and Warriors “Final Spinner” Lenses for Snapchat and TikTok. Users were able to embrace their inner Tatum & Curry and support their favorite team during the NBA Finals. The Celtics and Warriors lenses had over 794,000 views and 630,000 views respectively on Snapchat.

As a Boston-based studio, we may be a little biased, but we would like to offer up a congratulations to both teams on all their hard work and effort throughout the season. SUMMER FUN!

The Smurfs X ZEPETO X Bare Tree Media

The Smurfs turn the metaverse blue with the release of branded virtual goods in collaboration with Bare Tree Media and ZEPETO

Brussels – June 24, 2022 — I.M.P.S. / Lafig Belgium have collaborated with Bare Tree Media to design and place The Smurfs branded virtual goods within ZEPETO, Asia’s largest metaverse platform with over 300 million registered users around the globe. The initial launch includes The Smurfs summer collection of custom designed 2D and 3D branded apparel and accessories, available exclusively to the global audience within ZEPETO.

This is the first metaverse collaboration between ZEPETO and Bare Tree Media. I.M.P.S. and Bare Tree Media have worked on past digital collaborations to introduce The Smurfs as branded mobile messaging applications, a Giphy channel, a Snapchat AR experience, Samsung themes and smartwatch faces. AAPI Heritage Month

Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May was Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We look to celebrate the illustrious and impactful contributions of more than 45 countries and 3 territories all across Asia, including Eastern Asia, Southeastern Asia, Southern Asia, Central Asia, and Western Asia (ref: asia society.org). The AAPI community has faced much adversity throughout history and continues to face adversity today.

Our new art manager, Elisa Lau, created an illustration for LaGuardia Marine Air Terminal’s first AAPIHM Exhibit back in 2021. This year, her work was the lead feature in the Social Justice category of Bloomfield College’s annual Literary Magazine. Lau’s piece highlights the importance of allyship in a world deeply divided.

“To this day, the Asian community is still viewed as foreigners. Our looks and heritage should not deny us our American identity. We are part of this country’s history, yet there are continuous efforts to erase our contributions and sacrifices. From micro-aggressions to physical violence, the continuous rise of anti-Asian hate has significantly impacted the mental health and safety of our communities. We need to heal and encourage our allies to join us in this effort,” said Lau.

Our company would like to recognize Elisa’s work, recognition, and efforts, as well as the diverse cultures and rich histories of all AAPI communities. Her illustration reminds us all that the world’s deadliest viruses are hate and unwarranted prejudice; we must stand together and unite against anti-AAPI racism.

Our team got the incredible opportunity to design a Twitter Branded Like for the premiere of the new
Marvel Studios movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which was released in theaters on May 6th.

 

 

National Pet Month 🐶 :

Just because Earth Day is in April does not mean we can’t celebrate our planet and the beautiful things it contains all year round. May is National Pet Month, and Bare Tree Media wanted to take the time to encourage our audience to support pets of all kinds.

ARL's Pet Prom:

In keeping with our mission of supporting animal welfare, we partnered with the Animal
Rescue League of Boston and designed custom GIFS to promote their “Pet Prom.”
The ARL Pet Prom highlights animals looking for their own fairytale happy endings.
In addition, our AR team designed an Instagram Camera effect for the event that you
can use on your own adopted pet.

World Turtle Day 🐢:

We don’t just love our furry friends! One of our AR designers, Wayne, created a Snapchat lens to “shellebrate” World Turtle Day on May 23rd. Embedded in this lens is a link to donate to the Florida Aquarium, which looks to provide protection for everyone’s favorite on-land and under the sea creatures. IN OTHER NEWS 📰

According to their website, the Las Vegas Licensing Expo “has connected the world’s most influential…brand owners and agents with consumer goods manufacturers, licensees, and retailers." Thousands of licensing industry professionals flew to Las Vegas May 23rd-26th to build partnerships, plan channel releases, and expose themselves to some of the newest brands available to the licensing world—and the BTM team was no exception!

Our studio representatives had the opportunity to meet with our valued licensors and discuss brand and product strategies for 2022 and 2023. We held 50+ meetings over three days with companies, including but not limited to, Sanrio (Hello Kitty), Mr. Men Little Miss, Hasbro, Care Bears, the Smurfs, and Pokemon.

“For me, this was the first meeting with a lot of our licensing partners in person due to COVID. I had the opportunity to network and gained more insight into the future of licensing in general. I was invited to a ‘Women in Toys’ breakfast and attended a character parade, featuring famous characters from Teletubbies, Squishmallows, etc. Overall, this experience was great and informative, despite it being at a limited capacity. The free swag was great too!"

Our AR team collaborated with the Smurfs to unveil a Snapchat Lens featured at the Licensing Expo. This hyper-casual gamified lens uses real-time 3D simulations and collision detection to bring users a fun, user-friendly AR experience. This lens also contains a custom link to a Smurfs sticker pack, available for iMessage, that has previously been promoted on our socials. Lau’s piece highlights the importance of allyship in a world deeply divided.

April Showers Bring May Flowers!

April showers bring May flowers…and an all-new edition of our newsletter. We are excited to recap all the creative content we made and shared throughout the spring. As always, we would like to thank our clients and business partners for their endless support and flexibility.

 

Adopt Don't Shop

April is a big month for celebrating our furry friends! Many members of our team at Bare Tree Media have adopted pets, and we wanted to take the time this month to encourage our audience to support local animal shelters and shelter pets. In keeping with our mission of supporting animal welfare, we created an official GIPHY page for the City of Boston Animal Care and Control Shelter and designed custom GIFS to promote pet adoption and care. Adopting from shelters provides all types of deserving pets with a safe and loving home. Our design intern, Wendy, created a special animated sticker pack for the occasion. Check them out and use them for yourself!

In addition, one of our AR designers, Wayne, created a Snapchat lens you can use on your own adopted pet! This lens uses machine learning to detect the faces of dogs and cats—even hamsters and then applies the animations. We were so thrilled to see many of our Instagram and Snapchat users try this lens.

Our AR, Design, and Social Media teams worked together to launch multiple virtual experiences across various platforms just in time for festival season!

We at Bare Tree Media, like so many around the world, are shocked and saddened by the sudden war that erupted in Ukraine. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected, and though we hope for peace to come quickly, we must be part of the solution.

Our AR, Design, and Social Media teams worked together to launch multiple St. Patrick’s Day AR experiences across various platforms, including TikTok.

St. Patrick's Day Makeup Effect

Want to look fabulous this St. Patrick’s Day? We released a “St. Patrick’s Day Makeup Effect” on TikTok that allows users to glam up their hair, eyes, and lips with green makeup and other St. Patrick’s-themed accessories.

Clover Color Match Effect

This next filter created using SparkAR for Instagram Camera and Facebook allows users to test their color skills. With the “Clover Color Match” Filter, the user must identify which color from a set of 4 St. Patrick’s-themed icons is different. Challenge your friends and see who gets more correct!

#HankTheTank Sticker

Our design team decided to put our own spin on Hank the Tank—everyone’s favorite 500lb pizza-loving bear. Check out the animated sticker we created of Hank stealing a slice of pizza from a fridge on our GIPHY page. In keeping with our support for animal causes, we hope for a safe solution and a happy ending for Hank the Tank.

League of Super Pets GIPHY Stickers

Behind every great superhero is an even greater super pet! We are excited to announce that we have been working with WarnerBros to create animated stickers for the new movie “DC League of Super Pets”, coming to theaters this May. Check them out on GIPHY!

Cubism TikTok Effect

BE THE ART. This Cubism TikTok Effect we created allows our users to embrace their artistic and creative sides. We aim to use our social media and design skills to provide a platform for all artists—especially those who are underexposed—to share their talents.

Betty White would have turned 100 years old on January 17, 2022. She had a wonderful career entertaining us, and a personal life dedicated to helping animals. Bare Tree Media is honored to be the designers of The Golden Girls animated messaging stickers available on the Apple App Store. To further honor Betty White and her lifelong dedication to animal welfare, we pledge to donate our profits from the January 17th, 2022 sales of these fun and engaging messaging stickers to the American Humane Society. For more than 100 years American Humane has been first in promoting the welfare and safety of animals and strengthening the bond between animals and people.

In case you missed it on our socials, we are beyond excited to announce that we will continue to work with Sanrio do Brasil and Azerion to launch Hello Kitty & Friends themed virtual goods

in Habbo and Woozworld. Each month, new content will launch into the metaverse, allowing fans to engage with their favorite characters in fun ways. Read the details here!

Our design team found a creative way to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the most influential leaders of the Civil Rights movement, As a company, we will honor his legacy by finding the best ways to serve our communities.
